Fresh Cacao Fruit, Chocolate Fruit Pod

The source of chocolate, the Cacao fruit has a delicious pulp surrounding each bean which has a unique sweet-sour flavour. To provide a description of the flavour one could describe it as a combination of soursop and mangosteen in texture and taste.

Some liken the flavour to 'passionfruit lemonade'.

Cacao fruit has a host of health benefits, including the fact that it is the highest plant-based source of iron known to man, at a whopping 7.3mg per 100g, and that it has over 40 times the antioxidants of blueberries!

Origin

Colombia, Ecuador, St Lucia or Vietnam.

Preparation

Cut it lengthwise to obtain the beans. Use a spoon to scoop out the pulp.  

Usage

The beans, covered in a delicious sweet pulp, can be eaten raw or added to your favourite smoothie. Cacao powder is made from the beans once they have been dried, roasted and grinded.

Storage

It can be preserved through refrigeration but will ripen at room temperature.

Picked and packed overnight, transfer to UK posted on first class. The arrival date is not confirmed but usually arrives next day.
